IELTS Writing Checker ("the App", "we", "us") helps you prepare for the IELTS Writing test by scoring your essays and giving feedback. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled.
1. Information we collect
Account information: your email address or phone number, or — if you sign in with Google — your name, email address, and profile photo from your Google account.
Essays and writing you submit: the text of essays you write in the App, the task prompt, word count, and time spent writing.
Assessment results: band scores, error feedback, and suggestions generated for your essays.
Purchase information: which credit packs or subscriptions you've bought and your credit balance. Payment card details are handled entirely by Google Play or our payment processor — we never see or store your card number.
Basic usage data: which features you use, for keeping the App working correctly and improving it.
2. How we use your information
To score your essays and generate feedback.
To track your progress over time (your band history, recurring error patterns) so we can show you personalized analytics.
To manage your account, credits, and purchases.
To communicate with you about your account (e.g., a one-time login code).
3. Sharing with third parties
We share the minimum necessary to run the App:
AI assessment provider (Google Gemini): the text of essays you submit is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate your band score and feedback. Google's own privacy terms apply to that processing.
Google Sign-In: if you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email, and profile photo with us, per Google's own privacy policy.
Payment processors (Google Play Billing / Paddle): if you buy credits or a subscription, the processor handles your payment directly — we only receive confirmation that a purchase succeeded, not your card details.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share your essays or scores with other users.
4. Data retention
We keep your account, essays, and assessment history for as long as your account is active, so you can review your past work and track your progress. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 6).
5. Your rights
You can delete individual unassessed essays yourself within the App.
You can request a full export or deletion of your account data by contacting us (Section 6).
If you're in a region with specific data protection rights (e.g., GDPR in the EU/UK), you have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing — contact us to exercise these rights.
The App is intended for people preparing to take the IELTS exam, generally teenagers and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
